How to Pray the Seven Sorrows Chaplet
The Seven Sorrows Chaplet is a Marian devotion that invites us to meditate on seven moments of profound sorrow in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through these sorrows, we contemplate not only Mary’s suffering, but also the Passion and suffering of her Son, Jesus.
The chaplet consists of seven groups of seven Hail Marys, with each group dedicated to one of Mary’s Seven Sorrows.
Whether you are praying the Seven Sorrows Chaplet for the first time or simply need a guide to follow along, here’s how to pray it.

The Prayers to know
Seven Sorrows Chaplet
These are the prayers for each part of the Seven Sorrows Chaplet.
Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, who are all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Invocation
Holy Mother, pierce me through; in my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified.
Concluding Prayer
V. Pray for us, O most sorrowful Virgin.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:
O God, in whose Passion, according to the prophecy of Simeon, a sword of sorrow did pierce the most sweet soul of the glorious Virgin and Mother Mary; grant that we, who devoutly call to mind her sorrows, may experience the blessed effect of Your Passion. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
